Today, Relocation AS celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Since 1996, we have supported international employees, families and employers with the practical and personal sides of moving to Norway — from immigration and homefinding to settling in and building a new life here.
Over those three decades, Norway has changed significantly. The way people relocate has evolved, technology has transformed the industry, and businesses have become more international than ever before. Yet one thing has remained constant: moving to a new country is about far more than paperwork.
It is about people.
Every work permit represents a new career opportunity. Every home search is the beginning of a new chapter. Every school enrolment marks the start of a child’s new adventure. Behind every relocation is a family navigating excitement, uncertainty, hope and change.
From paper maps to digital relocation
Over the past 30 years, we have witnessed remarkable changes.
When Relocation AS was founded in 1996, smartphones did not exist. Consultants navigated Norway using printed street directories, paper maps and handwritten directions. Today, GPS and digital maps guide us wherever we need to go with just a few taps.
Finding a home looked very different too. Rental properties were advertised in newspaper listings, and when suitable housing was difficult to find, we would place our own advertisements in local newspapers on behalf of clients. Much of the work involved calling landlords one by one to enquire about available properties and arrange viewings. Today, digital property platforms have transformed the process, making it easier to search, compare and communicate online.
The way we communicate has changed just as dramatically. Letters, fax machines and landline phones have given way to video meetings, secure online portals, instant messaging and AI-powered tools. Immigration processes have become increasingly digital.
International recruitment has also transformed. Companies today compete globally for talent in ways that were almost unimaginable three decades ago, and employees increasingly expect a seamless relocation experience.
The expectations of relocating employees and their families have evolved too. Today, they look for more than efficient immigration support. They want bespoke guidance on finding a home, understanding Norwegian society, enrolling children in school, navigating public services and building a life in their new community.
While the tools, technology and processes have changed enormously, one thing has remained exactly the same: our commitment to helping people feel at home in Norway.
